The word Grüner roughly translates to “the green one,” and the grassiness of the 2018 Grüner Veltliner certainly embodies that. Aromas of freshly cut grass intermingle with white grapefruit, lime, and lees character. On the palette, the grassiness moves into a herbaceous verve that compliments the wine’s citrus notes and typically yeasty mid palette, extending all the way to the finish. Pillowy bodied, but with mouthwatering acidity, the Grüner strikes a balancing act that makes it extremely versatile with food. As with past vintages, it has the heft and length to stand up to heavier dishes, and the acidity to complement lighter fare.
