This vineyard block got the name “Stone Patch” from the granite boulders that rise up through the ground beneath the Cab Franc’s roots. We periodically remove them to build decorative walls, (or just to make sure we don’t trip on them,) so we are routinely amazed how more literally keep popping up. The 2018 vintage is as earthy as it’s vineyard name. It’s nose may be redolent of black cherry, almond cake and barrel spices, but these are joined on the palate by sagebrush, fresh garden herbs, and black pepper, with a savoury herb finish. It’s silty body, spicy tannins and purplish color hint that the 2018 will benefit from aging up through 2025.
